Michael Swope received a Masters Degree in Music at the University of Louisville’s School of Music, where he studied with Dr. Michael Tunnell. During his tenure at the university, Michael played with the University Symphony, the University of Louisville Wind Ensemble, the University of Louisville Trumpet Ensemble, and the Cardinal Brass Quintet.
Michael earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music from the Jordan College of Fine Arts on the Campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. While at Butler, Michael studied with freelance musician Allen Miller and Indianapolis Symphony Principal Trumpet Marvin Perry. Michael also studied extensively with Dr. Frederick A. Beck, former faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Michael has performed under the baton of such prestigious conductors as Raymond Leppard, Leon Botstein of the American Symphony Orchestra, Frederick Fennell, Richard Auldon Clark of the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Alfred Savia of the Evansville Philharmonic and Indianapolis Symphony, and Ian Hobson.
Michael is an active freelance musician in the Louisville area. He can be seen playing auxiliary trumpet with the Louisville Orchestra, and with both Symphonic Arts Entertainment and the Louisville Commonwealth Musicians. He is available to play weddings, church services and special occasions by contacting him directly. Michael is also currently accepting applicants to his private studio.
